Part of learning German A1 is knowing all about family. In the German A1 exam, you would almost certainly encounter questions with terms about family.
The words below are the most important words to memorize to learn more about friends and family.

To talk about brothers, sisters, or both in a less specific way, we can use the collective term "die Geschwister" (siblings). This is a noun that only exists in the plural form.
We use the words "Freund" (male friend) and "Freundin" (female friend) not only to talk about friends, but to talk about romantic partners, too. So, we often need some additional context to establish what kind of relationship we're referring to.
Hast du eine Freundin? (Do you have a girlfriend?)
Wir kennen uns durch eine Freundin. (We know each other through a female friend.)
Normally, Germans call their parents Mama and Papa. In eastern parts, Mutti and Vati are used more commonly.
Das ist mein Vater. That is my father.
Das ist meine Mutter. That is my mother.
Das ist mein Kind. That is my child.
Mein Bruder studiert in Spanien. My brother is studying in Spain.
Meine Schwester ist Ärztin. My sister is a doctor.
Meine Eltern arbeiten bei Unilever. My parents work in Unilever.
Ich habe zwei Kinder. Ein Sohn und eine Tochter. I have two children. A son and a daughter.
Mein Kind heißt Sam. My child's called Sam.
Was ist dein Bruder von Beruf? What is your brother's work?
Was ist deine Schwester von Beruf? What is your sister's job?
Was sind deine Eltern von Beruf? What are your parents' jobs?
Meine Großeltern sind sehr alt. My grandparents are very old.
Opa ist siebzig Jahre alt und Oma ist fünfundsechzig. Grandpa is 70 years old and grandma is 65 years old.
Meine Oma ist sehr nett. My grandma is very nice.
Mein Opa wohnt in Berlin. My grandpa lives in Berlin.
